In full: "Sorry it took so long but I finally have all the autographs you need. Mercury is finished apparently, but I am sure we share many pleasant memories of the relationships established while Mercury flew. We particularly enjoyed our times at Cocoa Beach with you and Iris. We are indebted to you for your hospitality. Best wishes to all the MacNabbs and GDA's." MacNabb's staff, with input from the astronauts, designed the mission insignias that were sewn on the space suits for the Gemini and Apollo programs. Mercury capsules had insignias, but patches for Project Mercury were produced by private firms following the success of the later patches. Mercury astronauts wore only NASA and name patches. On May 24, 1962, Scott Carpenter, one of the seven original astronauts, flew aboard the Project Mercury capsule Aurora 7, orbiting the Earth three times for a total of four hours and 55 minutes. The last Mercury mission was flown by Gordon Cooper on May 15-16, 1963, eight weeks before this letter was written. Glue stain at top margin of verso shows through, touching letterhead and date.
