British missionary Sir Wilfred Grenfell (1865-1940) was a surgeon on a hospital ship that served the North Sea fisheries and was a member of the Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen. In 1892, he went to Labrador, founding hospitals, orphanages and other social services as well as fitting hospital ships for the fishing grounds. Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, Newfoundland, is named for him. Mounting adhesive shows through lightly on signature slip.
