Newspaper photo affixed in upper right. Daniel A. Poling (1884-1968), a Baptist minister who led churches in New York and Philadelphia, was the longtime editor of the Christian Herald. Poling campaigned actively for Prohibition, and his staunch anti-communism included strong support for Senator Joseph McCarthy. His son, Clark Poling, was one of the "four chaplains" who died in the sinking of the USS Dorchester in World War II, and Poling died shortly after addressing a 25th anniversary commemoration of their sacrifice.
