In full: "I have your favor of November 16th, and expect to be in town and at your service any day next week except Tuesday." Choate, a New York City lawyer, was counsel in important cases such as the Tweed Ring prosecution, Standard Oil antitrust cases and income tax cases. He later served as U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain (1899-1905) and was head of the U.S. delegation to the second International Peace Conference at The Hague (1907).
