American stage actor and producer Dixey (1859-1943) made his acting debut in 1868 and played in stock companies before his first Broadway credits, as producer of the original Broadway production and two revivals of The Pearl of Pekin (1888-1889). A good-looking comic actor whose later credits include roles in period pieces with tight-fighting costumes, he's best known for his performance in the title role of Adonis, a burlesque musical; the 1884 original production was reportedly the first show to run more than 500 performances on Broadway. Dixey had over 30 credits, mostly acting, on Broadway between 1884 and 1926, as well as three movie appearances between 1908 and 1916. Lightly toned and soiled.
