He graduated from the prestigious military school in 1967, eventually becoming a Colonel. Buchli joined NASA in 1979, going on to fly on four Space Shuttle missions: STS-51-C (1985), STS-61-A (1985), STS-29 (1989), and STS-48 (1991).
