Description
I designed, carved, and cast this pendant in lead-free pewter. With this medal, nurses and nursing students can be accompanied and inspired by a saint as they work or study. The medal comes on a jump ring (see main photo), in a jewelry pouch, with a split ring (see packaging photo) so the medal can be used as a key chain, and with a card stating the following: "Catherine (1347-80), the twenty-fourth child of a dyer and his wife, spent several years of her early life in prayer and virtual solitude in a back room of her parents' home. At the end of this period she emerged and entered the world with devotion and a passion to help and heal. She tirelessly nursed the sick in local hospitals and unceasingly offered care during the plague of 1374. Thus she became a patron saint of nurses. Just before she went into the world, her father went into her room and saw a dove above her head. This medal, which was handmade at In the Company of Saints, shows Catherine with the dove, a symbol of her work in the world as a nurse." Dimensions: 1 1/4 inches high x 3/4 inches wide. The piece is also available on a chain, in a separate listing.
