Description
RUDOLPH VALENTINO. Photograph signed: "Kindest wishes/Rudolph Valentino". Sepia, 7½x9¾. Valentino was the great romantic screen idol of the 1920s, the epitome of the "Latin lover." Among his films, all silent, were The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, The Sheik, Monsieur Beaucaire and The Son of the Sheik. Valentino was taken to a New York hospital with a perforated ulcer. His sudden death on August 23, 1926 at the age of 31 brought on a wave of mass hysteria among female fans. As with Elvis Presley a half century later, rumours persisted for years that he was not dead, but in hiding. Adequate contrast. Slightly foxed. Scuffed at upper left edge. ¼-inch tear at upper center. - Please contact us if you have any questions or require additional information. DOCUMENT 88860
