Among his films, all silent, were The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, The Sheik, Monsieur Beaucaire and The Son of the Sheik. Valentino was taken to a New York hospital with a perforated ulcer. His sudden death on August 23, 1926 at the age of 31 brought on a wave of mass hysteria among female fans. As with Elvis Presley a half century later, rumours persisted for years that he was not dead, but in hiding. Adequate contrast. Slightly foxed.
