RONALD REAGAN and KENNETH DAM The President and the Deputy Secretary of the State sign a 23x19 document appointing Jeffrey Hart as a Member of the National Council on the Humanities Document signed: "Ronald Reagan", "Kenneth Dam", 23x19, October 4, 1982. Appointment of Jefferey Hart as a Member of the National Council on the Humanities. In full: "Know ye, that reposing special trust and confidence in the Integrity and Ability of Jeffrey Hart of New Hampshire, I have nominated, and, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate do appoint him a Member of the National Council on the Humanities for a term expiring January 26,1988, and do authorize and empower him to execute and fulfill the duties of that Office according to law, and to have and to hold the said Office, with all the powers, privileges, and emoluments thereunto the right appertaining unto him the said Jeffrey Hart subject to the conditions prescribed by law. In testimony whereof, I have caused these Letters to be made Patent and the Seal of the United State to be hereunto affixed. Done at the City of Washington this fourth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eighty two and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and seventh." RONALD REAGAN (1911-2004) had two careers: actor and politician. His first movie was Love is on the Air (1937) and his 53rd and last film was The Killers (1964). In 1965, he wrote his autobiography, Where's the Rest of Me?, a line from his role as Drake McHugh in King's Row (1942). Reagan left his job hosting television's Death Valley Days during the 1965-1966 season, when he entered politics. Elected Governor of California in 1966, he was reelected in 1970.
