A test pilot, Cooper (1927-2004) was one of the original seven astronauts (1959). He orbited the Earth 22 times aboard his Faith 7 Mercury space capsule in 1963. In 1965, he was the command pilot of Gemini 5., which proved that men could remain in space long enough to travel to the moon and back. He left the Air Force as a Colonel (1970) to start his own aerospace consulting firm. Lightly creased (not at writing or signature).
