A light, moderately wide and seriously skiable ski made for freetouring, the Black Crows Orb Freebird has become an icon of the ski touring market. Coming in at 2990g per pair (178 cm) there's no compromise in their stability on steep and icy slope, whilst the nose rocker makes them super playful and manoeuvrable on deeper descents. Built around a full wood core comprised of superlight Paulownia, known for its incredible strength-to-weight ratio. This configuration ensures the ski provides continuous, even flex from tip to tail, whilst also being one of the lightest skis in its class, at less than 3kg per pair (178cm). This is complemented by a carbon band which runs the full length of the ski and enhances the ski's pop and rebound. Underfoot is a titanal plate which helps with binding retention as well as transferring power out to the skis edges, heightening response and increasing edge hold. The Orb Freebird features a semi-cap sidewall construction which folds the ski's topsheet over the edges where they're fused together with the ski's edge. This reduces the instances of topsheet delamination and unsightly chips, whilst also bolstering the ski against side impacts from trees, rocks and other unseen threats. Additionally, the Orb Freebird features trimmed down, touring specific edge rails for smoother gliding and reduced friction. The tail features a plastic insert for climbing skins. Not only does this make attaching skins easier but it also protects the ski from any damage associated with the clips. The Orb Freebird's Nose Rocker provides excellent float in powder while the camber under-foot and through the tail give the ski fantastic edge hold and control on icier slopes.
