The doll represents a young, single women from a rural area in Panjshir Province, Northeast Afghanistan. She is an ethnic Tajik dressed for a special occasion: A party, wedding or national day. The Helmand Doll Project is a non-profit, humanitarian, charitable, self-help project that employs women to handcraft colorful, exotic and ethnic dolls.
