In landscape mode, your key subjects will be closer to the rig's horizon; in portrait mode, the subjects will be closer to the top of the rig. The latter is also ideal when your mounting base (tripod or otherwise) is wide and will need to be removed from the shot in the stitching process. The rig also leaves access to all camera ports. The 360Helios 6 has a 3/8"-16 mounting point and comes with a 1/4"-20 adapter.
