5 stars:
They fit as well as Lego, and there were no blemishes or missing pieces.
All pieces were printed vs. decals, and the prints were all crisp and clear.
Improved turret fit. Some of the previous turrets on other Mega Bloks models would come off the base piece when the turret was too large of the number of studs the shaft was attached to. They now have an actual turret ring and it is rock solid, even surviving rough play by a 6 year old. It may be the most durable/playable brick turret design I have seen.
Assembled Tread Units. The tread assemblies on previous Halo sets are one piece assemblies. For the first time these are built up. The fit is excellent and they work. I have no idea why one reviewer had trouble with them, as my 6 year old does not. They have some interesting half-width pieces to keep the proportions right. I only wish the treads were built up like Cobi, and then you could use them for all kinds of military vehicles.
Durable Design. One place Lego stands out is the thought given into the design of almost all of their kits. This is clearly their equal. The entire structure has stood up to very rough play from a 6 year old, and the design and assembly is clearly thought out. ‘nuff said.
4 stars:
The instruction manual. With any of these Mega Bloks sets using the darker military colored patterned pieces; it can be a little hard to tell the black from the black patterned from the dark green patterned pieces. This also maybe my middle aged eyes, as my six year old son has no problems. On the other hand, he does occasionally need some help with the assemblies. This is not a Lego Creator level kit, and the description makes that clear stating Age 8+.
I will state the Lego instructions for a more complex kit, like Technics, are easier to understand and are the kind that deserves 5 stars. On the other hand, Lego will use bright colored interior bricks very often just to make the interior structure easier to see and understand. Of course those bright bricks are not as useful to build other military vehicles from.
No numbered bags. I’m only giving this four stars because of how many people hate this. We presort all our pieces into four parts boxes that fit in a large Plano 3700 rack system. Since we do them all at once, it doesn’t make any difference to us at all. If you do not presort your pieces, this could be a real problem. If you only presort them one bag at a time – you’re still going to sort them all, the Mega Bloks non-numbered bags just means you have to sort them all at once. Just a heads up.
Personal Preference:
Patterned pieces. You either love it, or hate it. I prefer the appearance, and in my opinion it keeps them from the “toy” look. On the other hand, the green and tan/brown patterned pieces are not going to work for use of the bricks outside the type of set – so patterned tan really only works for military or weathered vehicle builds in that kind of arid environment.
Specialty pieces. Instead of a limited number of large specialty pieces, there is a slightly larger number of small specialty pieces. This makes them more versatile, as you can build up a larger variety of small assemblies to make some excellent assemblies. Think the vehicle/aircraft equivalent to some of the pieces used in Lego modular buildings.
Minifigs. These are NOT Lego minifigs. They are updated, multi-position, armor/accessory changeable figures. The do NOT have the classic Lego look. They ARE more versatile then Lego minifigs, are clearable superior to Lego minidolls (Friends figures) and can take very realistic poses with weapons. They have to be assembled from multiple small pieces. The first time this can be tricky, but by the second or third figures it is actually quite easy and you appreciate the versatility.
Dumb but accurate to the game secondary armament. The extra hull gatling gun is a massive vulnerable point in the design. It’s dumb. However, it’s true to this version in Halo. I’m just complaining, my little boy could care less.
the Protector is pretty cool with a unique paint scheme, and you get SPARTAN BUCK. My brother loves the character so I got a second tank just for him to get a Buck figure.
CONS: The elite is sadly alone, there should've been two of them in this pack. Or a couple grunts. Building will require some patience, but if you have a friend or family member to build with it is a lot more fun to construct.
My only issue with them is the instructions aren't as easy to follow as Lego brand. With Lego each set of steps as a number that corresponds with a number on a small bag of Lego that has every piece you need for that set of steps. Mega Bloks do have a set of steps and many small bags of blocks...but there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for the way the blocks are bagged. I had to open every single bag and dig through the blocks to find the pieces needed for each set of steps. Which was fine I guess just more time consuming.
But as far as I know Lego doesn't make Halo sets, and that is what my boys wanted so that's what we got, and like I said, they are happy with them! And the quality is good just weird organization I guess!

That is unless it becomes a collector's item that sells for the same price of a new car. Then instead of happy childhood memories there will be nothing but regret for opening the original packaging and destroying the resale value. That's the thing about kids, they have no foresight. The thing about adults is that they'll pay stupid amounts of money for childhood memories.
