Designed to provide safety, convenience, and security outside the home, the Heath Zenith motion-sensing security light (model SL-5512-WH) provides reliability and peace of mind at a price you can afford. The SL-5512-WH features 240-degree motion detection at up to 100 feet, and it uses two 150-watt halogen bulbs (included) — for 300 watts of total illumination. This model comes in white, but it's also available in bronze.

Features Heath Zenith's patented DualBrite two-level lighting technology (bronze model shown; view larger).

This security light also features Heath Zenith's patented DualBrite technology, which provides energy saving two-level lighting operating at half power until motion is detected and full power lighting when motion is detected.

Studies show that light is the #1 deterrent to crime, and Heath Zenith's intelligent motion lighting fixtures help give the appearance of a startled homeowner turning on the lights to investigate what's going on outside. They also provide convenient illumination when you need it most, whether you're working outside at night or needing to see the steps more clearly to avoid a fall.

Lights are activated when motion is detected, so there's no need to waste electricity by leaving the lights on all night. You can choose between three auto modes — 1, 5, or 20 minutes of illumination after motion triggers the light. In DualBrite mode, you can choose 3 hours, 6 hours, or dusk to dawn. When constant light is needed, this motion-activated light has a manual override mode that allows it to function as switch-controlled light for constant on, dusk-to-dawn lighting.

Heath Zenith uses superior pulse-count motion detection technology, which prevents false triggering by reading heat and movement in pulses as opposed to single occurrences. As a result, only substantial motion is detected, such as humans and animals.

This security light offers Heath Zenith's exclusive RangeBoost feature, which uses double pulse-count technology to reduce false triggering and allows it to reliably detect motion farther than the competition — adding 30 feet of motion detection range from the light fixture.

Not sure why there are so many negative reviews on this thing but they cost me a lot more time when looking for one in this price range. I ended up buying it anyway and this thing works great. Maybe because it seems like it should not be mounted anywhere too high where you need to point the lights straight down because they throw off the motion sensor (I did not notice this). I mounted it like 10 feet above ground and it worked great for me. Was about as easy as it could be to install and is plenty bright for my back yard (50 feet wide by 25 back) and I have the motion sensor set to about 75% and it works great. One of my favorite features is that you need to unscrew something to get to the bulb unlike the cheap one's that have a bulb that can simply be unscrewed making it useless (this actually happened to a friend).

10/17 UPDATE I have had 2 of these units fail on me with one side of the lights stop working on each one. After troubleshooting it I could not repair it. So I'm biting the bullet and buying the entire unit again. When they are working they are bright for my large yards. The sensors work fine. I just can't figure out what is causing only one light of the dual lights to stop functioning.

I have had two of these, one for my large driveway and one for my yard. I've had both for many years, like at least 10, and I love them.

This is an outstanding brand and you can set the location when the motion sensor comes on. These have endured many long and harsh winters and still work perfectly. I have mine both set to come on low at dusk and stays on till dawn. If it picks up motion, it will light cone on full blast! My area is so dark at night and I like leaving these on low all night. Its a very low light which is perfect for my area. Don't hesitate buying these, the other few reviews don't appear to be talking about the same motion sensor light!

I broke the lamp bracket on my HZ-5512 security light while adjusting the lamp. I called Zenith and they said there were no replacement parts for the bracket. I ordered the same exact model HZ-5512 to replace the old light. The lights look identical but the distance that the sensor picks up motion is not the same. I had the old light set to pick up motion at about 40 feet and it worked great! This new one can only go to 20 feet max even at the highest boost setting. I called Zenith support and they said this seller "TuckerKitts" was not an authorized seller and that he would not work with me. He implied that my product might be a copy. I am sure this light is not a copy and that poor customer service was the issue. This will be the last Zenith security light that I buy.

These lights work great, but having had a few of them over the years I know you've got to take some time and caulk it up nice to ensure the longevity as water seeps into the sensor and the manufacturing doesn't stand behind the product too much. I have a total of 4 on my property, they've all served well once I sealed them up. Can be a bit arduous to line up the way you want them, but with a little patience you'll be in business in no time.

I had 4 of these installed on my new built house. They work ok. In 3 years only 1 bulb has gone bad. The light is not as bright for the area as I would hope. The sensitivity is O.K. The major drawback is that the lights seem to get stuck on frequently in the middle of the night. I have 2 lights on 1 switch and one or both of the of the lights will get stuck turned on. As 2 of these are outside my bedroom window, this can get annoying. To clear, I have to go and turn off the wall switch and then turn back on. I know you can set the lights on permanently by turning them on then shutting them off and back on, but this is happening in the middle of the night while asleep.

The light fixture arrived with the halogen bulbs already installed, a big help since the bulbs cannot be touched (skin oil will cause the bulb to burn out quickly). This is a replacement for a 6 year old unit that had the motion sensor fail. I think the failure was due to the electrician not installing the gasket and water eventually found its way down into the sensor. I love the different settings instead of just off and on. Very easy to install into existing wiring. The rectangular lights look better to me than the round flood lights, also motion sensing, i have on the back of the house.
