The seat is held on with PARTICLE BOARD!!! I shifted in my seat to get more comfortable and went from looking at my computer screen to looking at my ceiling. I was stunned for a second and had no idea what had happened. To my utter dismay, the seat had snapped off. I have no idea how I did not end up more injured but did end up with a mild concussion and a very sore back! This is poor manufacturing at its lowest!

I opened the box this morning and put the chair together in about 2 hours. The materials and craftsmanship are excellent, especially considering how low the price is. The design is good. The cushions are soft enough to pad your knees, and the height adjusts by simply turning a brass knob (no need to take the whole chair apart and screw it back together in a different position). It has a very attractive design. Compared to other kneeling chairs in the same price range, I like this one. The assembly instructions consist of a detailed pictorial diagram, with no verbal explanations. This should not cause you difficulty if you have assembled furniture in the past. If you have never used a kneeling chair before, you will find this style of chair helps keeps your back and abdominal muscles toned if you have to sit all day. However, if you are not already in good physical condition, this style of chair might cause you some discomfort. It has a label saying it will only hold 200 pounds. It can cause some discomfort on your knees, which can be alleviated by taking short standing breaks every hour or so.

P.S. - I have been using the chair for several months. The knee plate gradually came loose, and you could feel it rocking back and forth. Today I got out the Allen wrenches & spent about 10 minutes tightening all the screws. Now the problem is fixed & the chair seems good as new. Shortly after I started using the chair, I bent too far forward to pick up something off the floor, and I tipped the whole chair over and landed on my knees on the floor (double ouch). However, I think that was a matter of "operator error" and nothing went wrong with the chair; just be careful and don't lean over too far, to avoid overbalancing.

I'm a freelance writer and spend a LOT of time on my laptop. I wanted to find a chair for "active sitting" so I could take some pressure off my lower back. I don't have back problems, but I periodically spend SO much time sitting that I'd get uncomfortable after the first 4 hours or so of a long editing project.

I really like sitting/working on an exercise ball (seriously), but hubby over-ruled that idea for my kitchen workstation, simply because it was not quite Politically Correct and clashed with the furnishings : ) Plus, the cat likes to punch and chase the giant ball. He was right, as usual. This kneeling chair ended up being the PERFECT answer for me.

I had been using a very nice, expensive office secretarial chair, but always found myself sitting on the front edge of it, with my feet wrapped around its leg stand so I could keep my posture comfortably erect. When I saw photos of the kneeling chairs, I KNEW THIS was my answer. The only question was whether to go with wood or metal, rolling or not, which type of adjustment, etc.

I'm an admittedly obsessive "pre-reader" of Amazon Reviews before making ANY purchase (this is getting to be a real problem at the grocery store, BTW), so I spent my obligatory hour or two of research before going with this model and I'm glad I did; it's the perfect fit for me.

1. It's comfortable! I like being able to sit upright and the knee support makes this very easy. I can even fold my legs under and behind me, which, for whatever reason, I find incredibly comfortable and relaxing.
2. Looks GREAT with our kitchen furniture (oak table, rolling grey Chromecraft chairs with oak). Although this is a slightly lighter shade of wood, it blends well. Metal would have been a mistake for this reason.
3. Seat and kneepad is comfortably cushiony. I'll update in the future about how well it wears, but it looks promising to me. Plenty soft for my tastes, but I am somewhat Spartan in my approach to life. If it suits its purpose, I'm a happy camper. These pads are soft enough, firm enough, and look tough enough to do their jobs.
4. Wheels are a NECESSITY. I did not realize it until I got the chair, but you need to be able to stand over the chair and then make a fine position adjustment just as you sit. Kind of like mounting a horse. I wouldn't want one that didn't roll for that reason (I AM up and down about a hundred times a day, so this matters to me).
5. Feels solid as you sit; I find it very comfortable. I'm relatively short (5'4") and use the middle of 3 positions.

I highly recommend this product; it's reasonably priced, easy to put together, and "sits great." A winner!

P.S. 6/4/13 Update: Still researching? I just checked for you; Wikipedia has a detailed explanation of the advantages of "active sitting," for those not familiar with the concept.

6/30/13 FYI Update: BUMMER! Though I still love this chair and still recommend it, I DON'T RECOMMEND it as a "permanent" everyday office chair. I correspondingly adjusted my star rating from 5 to 4.

Why? After sitting on this every day for 12-14 hours for 6 weeks, I began to notice that my hamstrings (muscles in the back of the thigh) were actually shortening (I stretch daily). Then it dawned on me: this is a natural result of the bended position of the legs for 8-10 hours a day, of course, a factor I didn't initially consider. Fortunately, I noticed in time. Shortened hamstrings not only make you feel stiff (and short), they also impact your back alignment AND your ability to balance. No harm done for this short period of use, but this could potentially cause problems after years of sitting this way, in my opinion.

So now, though I REALLY like sitting in this kneeling chair, it's relegated to a TASK CHAIR in my office. I do use it for several hours a week and it is a go-to favorite for comfort, but I just don't think any kneeling chair would be a suitable permanent replacement for an office chair for me. But for occasional use, it's still terrifically comfortable.

This is an inexpensive kneeling chair. Most are much more expensive, so don't expect a $500 chair for less than $100.

Assembly:
It took me less than an hour to put it together. Although it is easy to assemble, the only instructions are pictures(no word instructions). If you have absolutely no mechanical ability, you should have someone else do it, although you could probably do it after some frustration. I recommend that you do not insert the screws until you figure out how it works. Just insert the tubes that allow the chair to stay upright. Once you have got it ready, then insert the screws, but dont' tighten them until you have all the screws in. Then tighten them. It is fairly easy, just expect it to take up to an hour. Putting on the rollers is optional.

Product:
It seems to be a bit rickety, but it does hold up. Perhaps it seems that way because I have a carpet. I am 5 feet 8 inches tall. It seems ok for me, but it you are much taller, you might not be happy with it, because it would be ackward to sit in.

Sitting:
It has a screwable adjustment for it. Finding just the right adjustment is imperative for your comfort. This is the same for all chairs, even regular chairs. So take the time to adjust it for your comfort. When you get it to about the right adjustment, just one or two turns will be neccessary to get it just right. When trying to find the right adjustment, you should sit up straight but relaxed. Your knees will be below your pelvis and should gently pull your spine so the curve in your lower back is comfortable. There should be no pinching or discomfort. In fact your entire spine should rest in such a way that each vertibrae stacks one upon the other. Once you have found this posture, and your chair is adjusted properly, sitting should be effortless. (like sitting should be) While trying to find the correct posture, try leaning forward and backward and to the sides, to feel how being out of balance feels. Then you should find the proper posture. Again, it will be effortless when you find it. You can think of your spine, kind of like, a bunch of childs building blocks. If you stack them just right, they will stay upright. Of course, due to the nature of your spine, it forms an "S" curve. Good luck.

Simple, does the job and fairly good on the eyes considering it's not a fancy brand one.
This alone doesn't solve all your problems so you do need to still figure out how it works best for you (e.g. what height etc.). I also wouldn't advise sitting on it continuously for more than a couple of hours, make sure you keep moving.
