This screen functioned for all of 5 minutes before it made the device unusable. Half the screen lost all touch function and the device couldn't be powered down. Buyers beware!!!

This worked beautifully for my daughter's iPod. I have replaced two screens previously, years ago an HTC phone and 1-2 years ago an iPad mini screen - both were simple, replacing screen/glass. But the iPod 5th generation is a different beast with the glass front glued with high-end clear glue to the digitizer (touchpad),

I had originally purchased
White Front Outer Screen Glass Lens Replacement Part with Tools for iPod Touch 5  and upon arrival and viewing a few videos, I quickly learned that I was missing the high-end adhesive, a heating plate AND a small, super thin gold chain to "saw" the adhesive to remove the old broken glass from the digitizer (to be re-used).

Uh - no way, I'm patient and open to learning/trying these types of repairs, but sawing adhesive away from glass? No thanks. So I bought this all-in-one unit.

A word of caution - this is a tricky repair simply because the ribbon cables need to fold over and click-connect to the back of a board that is still attached to the back of the iPod. Apparently people break the ribbon cables at this point as the product came with a stiff warning about no warranty for broken ribbon cables.

I was able to persevere (with the help of some extra hands) and besides getting the ribbon cables connected, the rest was simple if you're highly patient and detailed. It worked perfectly for my daughter who is now a happy, texting pre-teen again.

Snapping the unit back together broke the thin plastic 'clip' It is very brittle and hard to snap in. Instructions not included (as stated in description) so had to look to other sites. The LCD display and digitizer work fine. Don't panic if the unit doesn't come on immediately, hold the power and home button to reset. It was difficult to take apart and a pain to get to the connectors in order to swap out the display unit (Apple design) For me, it was impossible to put back together without damaging the clip that holds the display unit in the frame. And while the unit works, the display unit is not flush with frame and two sharp plastic pieces from the clip stick up out of the frame. Wish there were better instructions out there on how to put the unit back together.

Product had a small flaw in the digitizer screen at bottom when it was new. The flaws got worse over time. Eventually the touch screen was unusable and seller would not replace the produce do to length of time that had passed. Should have returned it on day one when I saw the small defects.

Piece worked well, installation was a bit more challenging than anticipated. Took a bit of patience to install. Wiring is sensitive and the connection can loosen which may cause blocks in the screen background, connectivity and speaker issues. Had to re-install twice to get it to work properly. Compared to shop repair prices, well worth trying first.

Installed fine, but about a month later the glass and the faceplate have begun to separate. It still works, but I know it won't last long. I am a light user who is well old enough to use it properly.

Used this screen to replace my 6 yr olds iPod screen. A little tricky to put on but not to bad. Screen works and looks like new. Fast shipping. Had some questions and seller answered them in a timely fashion. Would buy again. Price was very fair

The iPod was trashed. The screen was shattered and the case was slightly bent. I asked my son and his girlfriend if they had used it as a hockey puck. Amazingly it still worked but she would get splinters from the glass. They asked me to get the part and I did. It sat for a week until I cleared off a workspace, looked at a youtube video and opened it up. By then they had gotten up from from their rigorous schedule of looking for work for an hour then the beach. Surprisingly they took over and in a rare moment of lucidity and constructive behavior replaced the screen assembly. It worked perfectly. Additionally it was a nice family moment.

It's highly likely my challenges stem from being easily frustrated and having no knowledge of how this is supposed to work. But, I also feel that sense Apple's answer to broken equipment is to "just buy another one" I feel I'm not in the minority of failed DIY'ers.

First: the tools are useless. Plastic is not the tool you need to get the glass separated from the case. You need metal, a jackhammer preferably. That thing is on there tight (although apparently not watertight). I used no provided tool from the kit.

Second: directions would be helpful. I looked up some videos on line but that didn't help because they used different tools, and I suspect the demonstrators worked at the factory or something with the level of skill they had... Not replicateable.
So, I now not only bought this, I also have to buy a new iPod for my son to take into the shower... Lifeproof case anyone?
