but they feel pretty damn good on
I just got these in the mail, so I can't speak to time-tested comfort, but they feel pretty damn good on. I wear an 8.5-9. I sized up based on reviews, and bought both 9 and 9.5, just in case (I'm leaving soon on a trip). I tried the 9 on first and don't need to bother with the 9.5. 9 fits great with thick ankle socks.Lots of room in the toes. I'm used to my toes hitting part of whatever shoe I'm wearing. Not a problem here. Walked around the house in them. They have nice arch support that gets better as you tighten the laces.I think they're kind of ugly from my bird's eye view; that's why I can't give them 5 stars. I don't love the look; but they're cute from the sides and head on--and they're way better looking than some of the potatoes I've tried on in the name of hiking and trail blazing. Why must hiking shoes be so hideous? Very pleased with the purple and black color. I wouldn't feel embarrassed to be out and about in them.I splashed water on the kitchen tile and they do indeed slip on that wet surface. But I wonder if a little outdoor scuffing won't help that. Hope so. I'm going to Scotland, where the rocks get slippery. I'll come back and add to my review after the trip. Maybe they'll be so incredible on the rocks that I'll give that last star.

I have flat feet and bunions. We planned a vacation to several National Parks where we wanted to hike. My feet often hurt from shoes that have too small of a toe box, too much arch support or not enough. I read the reviews for these shoes and ordered the Merrill Women’s Siren Edge Hiker. These shoes gave my feet great support, never slipped on rocks and never hurt. The toe box was wide enough to not hurt my bunions. The shoes were not heavy or bulky. We hiked for many miles and these shoes never caused me pain. I wore them even when not hiking. Even when roots and rocks were on the trail, these shoes supported my feet. They didn’t slip or roll. I am very impressed with the shoes and recommend them for hiking or if you are on your feet for long periods of time. Great support, comfortable and stylish. Great shoes.

First, I'm using these in a suburban environment. I cannot comment on using them for true hiking, but my kids and I do a lot of urban exploring which involves both paved and natural ground, dry and wet with algae surfaces.
The fit of these is nice, with a wide rounded toe box. They aren't super padded and cushy (which I like), but they have a firm supportive sole that provides some give on hard surfaces. If you like a really cushy shoe, you probably won't care for these. I would describe the experience of walking on pavement as similar to walking on a lawn barefoot.
The thing that is my favorite, though, is the tread pattern. They have great grip, are nonmarking, and don't squeak. But the treads are broken up in a way that allows my foot to flex and bend naturally without the shoe getting in the way.
A bonus I didn't really expect is that they breathe nicely and even in 100* temps, my feet aren't uncomfortably sweaty or hot.
TLDR; These shoes meet all of my needs for urban exploring adventures, while keeping my feet and ankles happy.

Edit: I'm going through my reviews and I honestly still love these sneakers. Repeat everything I said before but after regular use for years.

I’m not a regular hiker, living in flat-as-a-pancake Illinois, but with a hiking weekend in Sedona on the horizon I needed something better than my slip-on sneakers. After shopping at all the outdoor/sports/shoe stores, I just couldn’t justify spending upwards of $100 on an unattractive pair of hiking shoes I’d likely never wear again. Enter these beauties...I shipped them straight to Sedona and thankfully the size 8s were a perfect fit (I’m usually a 7.5/8). But even better, they were absolutely amazing through the different terrains we hiked; sandy paths through the woods, rocky paths through the red rock and even up the face of Bell Rock! My courage failed eventually, but my Sirens didn’t slip once. And the best part is that they are a great, comfortable, good looking athletic shoe that I’ll be happy to wear any day at home. Money well spent!

I took a chance ordering these online last minute two days before I hiked the Skyline Trail at Mt Rainier. I wore them to the airport to break them in and found to be uncomfortable walking around on regular ground; so much so that I took them off during my flight and put on my regular running shoes. The soles are really stiff and don't have much cushion or bounce at all. Tried adding Dr. Scholls inserts, but then my feet felt like they were up a little too high and the ankle support wasn't as good.

Comtemplated returning but decided to try them out on my hike and I'm soooo glad I did. Ordered a half size up and wore two pairs of socks for my hike. There was still a little room in the shoes with the double socks -- without double socks they felt a little too loose, so I would say they run true to size. I think the double socks helped make them
more comfortable, so I would probably suggest going up a half size so you have room for two pairs of thinner socks or one pair of nice thick socks.

They were very comfortable up until the last mile or so of the 5.5 mile trail. There were tons of loose jagged rocks all over the trail and thanks to these shoes I didn't feel the impact of that at all. Good ankle support and was not slippery even walking over rocks in a creek with running water. Was a little slippery walking over a downhill patch of icy snow, but I'm not sure what kind of shoe wouldn't have been. (Maybe a hiking boot?) Also, my feet stayed dry even after stepping in a few inches of water and snow.

Overall, these were a good purchase for the price and I'm glad I chose these as my first pair of hiking shoes. I imagine you can get more comfort with a higher price tag, but I'm hoping these will become more comfortable as I break them in.

Bonus is that for hiking shoes they are pretty cute and from a glance look like regular sneakers.

Merrell products do not lack in quality or comfort. I've had a different pair for years whuch have been the best all-around walking, hiking, every-day shoe. Now that I need to replace my current pair, I've tried 2 different Merrell models which both ran about a 1/2 size too big - Tokota 2 Hiker & Moab 2 Vented Hiker. Even my hard plastic orthidics did not compensate for it. The Women's Siren Edge Hiker arrived today, and feel perfect (even with my ortodics inserted underneath the removable sole inserts) as I walk around the house to test them out. The toe box is comfy because of the soft, flexable material; heel fits good; and ankle cut-outs are perfect for me - no rubbing. These shoes will be doing double duty as sneakers & hikers. The color is true to what's puctured on Amazon. It's listed as bright red, but the main fabric is more of an orangey-pinky-red in my opinion. I do like the bright colors. Hope the pictures help. I would highly recommend this shoe. No, I was not paid to do a review - I'm an ordinary customer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Merrell shoes!

Merrell shoes are the best. Very comfortable. Sometimes a bit pricey but worth the money when you can afford to get a pair and when in stock. The shoes I just got looked biege in the picture on Amazon but when they came they were kind of a sage green color. Wasn't ecpecting that but it is ok. I actually like the color. Just a bit of a surprise.
