The majority of the problems I have had with HVAC systems over the years are fixed by replacing the capacitor. I like to keep one on hand as they are significantly cheaper when you buy in advance compared to when you need it immediately and are forced to pay HVAC technician rates to replace since the system always fails on the hottest day.
This is a simple DIY replacement and once you have done it, you can do it in just a few minutes on nearly any system. This capacitor meets the OEM specifications for my unit.

Hey, it's a capacitor ... it either works or doesn't. This one seems to be a quality product and it certainly got my father-in-law's air conditioning working again during a heatwave ... so that is much appreciated. Price is great for the quality especially - this is a well-known quality brand. Surprisingly, there was no marking of where it was made anywhere on the box or the capacitor itself. That surprised me. Hopefully it is of U.S. origin.

Seems to work fine time will tell my only real complaint is it has a smaller diameter than the original so was a pain to mount ....but I guess there is no standard configuration so not really a flaw as it likely will be perfect diameter for another brand A/C idk I did not give high marks for accuracy ONLY because I cant be sure having no meter that tests capacitance ....it works to start both motors though so it may be close enough hopefully?

Only been running for a week on a 1 year goodman 2.5 ton unit. So far so good but it was not my problem needed a hard start. I tested the capacitance both original and this one both were good. Already had compressor replaced so if you get a goodman install one of these even better a soft start. I will update if capacitor fails its so crazy to have to install so early in its life but it's planned obsolescence.

Keep These On Hand For When Your Air Conditioner Stops Working

Very often a failed capacitor is the cause for a compressor and/or fan that won't run on a central air conditioner or heat pump. Sometimes the failure will be obvious in that the capacitor will have a noticeable bulge at one end or in extreme cases have split open. Before such a failure, it is a good idea to determine the value of capacitor(s) used in the unit outside the house. Before removing any equipment service covers, make sure to disconnect power to the unit by removing fuses and/or switching off the circuit breaker. Once power is removed. remove the equipment service cover and locate the capacitor(s). Some units have one capacitor with 3 terminals and others more than 1 capacitor with 2 terminals each. Note the capacitance value (MFD) and working voltage for the capacitor(s). Order the correct capacitor(s) for your unit with the same capacitance (MFD) and equal or higher voltage rating. Keep spares on hand in the event that your unit stops running one day. When installing the new capacitor(s), make sure to first remove unit power and to put the wires on the correct capacitor terminals marked C (common), FAN (fan), and HERM (compressor) in the case of a 3 terminal capacitor. It's a good idea to label the wires before removing them from the old capacitor(s) and even take photos as a guide for proper wire connection. If capacitor replacement solves the problem that's great. If not, further troubleshooting is in order and professional assistance should be sought.
