A casual, sneaker silhouette sits atop a rocker unit sole for theraputic walking that feels like stepping on sand.

MBT shoes are physiological footwear--the first footwear that has a positive effect on the entire body. MBT stands for "Masai Barefoot Technology." Their innovative design includes a multi-layered, curved sole which makes for a unique and rewarding walking experience. The key to MBT is its patented sole structure. The shank, PU midsole with Pivot and the Masai Sensor create a soft surface that is akin to walking barefoot on springy moss or on a sandy beach. This creates a natural instability underfoot, which activates the supporting muscle system and has positive effects on the entire body. Wearing MBTs significantly improves your gait and posture and relieves pressure on your joints and back. It also exercises a large number of muscles, whether you're walking or standing. This, in turn, stimulates your metabolism, burns extra calories and speeds up muscle regeneration. In addition, MBTs can have a firming effect on abdominal, leg and buttock muscles. I'm an eccentric case, but maybe my experience will help others. I'm a male wearing an MBT women's shoe because I have so much trouble getting a shoe that fits my very narrow feet.
I love the rocking action of MBT, especially because I have damage to the joint at the base of the big toe (hallux rigidus). That makes it painful to flex the toes while walking. MBT's design permits vigorous walking but with the flex coming from the ankles rather than the toes.
These shoes are beautifully made and very sturdy-- yet not heavy despite the thickness of the distinctive MBT rocking sole.
That said, I'm exasperated that MBT's shoes for men are MUCH too wide for me. I was wearing them with thick socks, extra tongue pads, extra insoles. So I decided to try a women's size because the women's shoes are much narrower than the men's. This strategy has almost worked. The largest women's shoe MBT makes is European size 43. I think I really need a 44, but with the aid of a shoe stretcher (FootFitter ASIN B000PMIBWM) my feet are [almost] happy.

I love MBTs-really fab for anyone with 'feet' problems. Not only give great support for my arches but are comfortable to wear for my job which involves being on my feet for long hours. Have worn MBTs gor over 15years and rely on them for work. Hace muchos años que utilizo calzado MBT, aproximadamente 14 o 15. Tenía fascitis plantar... me pusieron unas plantillas, pero con ellas me dolían más que antes y el médico me mandó quitarmelas. Tengo además 2 hernias discales; un problema en los pies por el que el médico me ha puesto unas plantillas y también una enfermedad de los huesos: Artritis reumática o espondiloartrosis anquilopoyética; no estoy segura de cuál de las dos es, pero son muy parecidas, Afectan a las articulaciones y a los huesos, en mi caso, especial mente en la espalda, desde hace unos 23 años...también las 2 rodillas fastidiadas...vamos...una maravilla...pero este calzado me ayuda mucho, junto con la práctica del Tai Chi y paseos. Recomiendo por propia experiencia este calzado para cualquiera de estos problemas: en mi caso, CON EL RESPALDO DE MI MÉDICO, tanto para el calzado, como pra el Tai Chi.
