We purchased this shark thinking it was a fun alternative to the toypedo. We were quite disappointed with it. The main concern is that it does not consistently glide in the water. If you manage to throw it "just right" (and we still haven't figured out exactly what that consists of) it may go a few feet at most. However, even when this occurs, there is no real novelty to it. It simply goes forward as any toy put into motion would. Another concern is the size and quality. It is much smaller that it appears in the photos and the paint started rubbing off almost immediately. Overall, this ended up being an overpriced plastic shark that floats. Update: In attempt to rebalance the shark that was clearly off center, the back fin popped right off. We contacted swimways directly who told us "Sorry, they don't have it in stock and contact Amazon for replacement options."

The shark glides through the water and floats to the top- which is great for the little ones and Mom! This shark is a hit at the pool- everyone wants to play with it. My 4 year old loves it at home as well. As for quality, it is sturdy but has already been sratched up a bit by being played with outside of the water. We just bought the original torpedo Swimways Original Toypedo Diving Pool Toy - Colors and Styles May Vary. It doesn't float and the one we got has blue and white stripes with pink and green on it. It will be interesting to see if it's as big of a hit as the shark. I know the original torpedo doesn't float and is good for diving. As for the shark, we will be buying another to have for backup- or to bring 2 to the pool so my son gets to play with it!

We have now purchased 2 of these....it often got thrown onto concrete and shark #1 finally met his match. It glides across the water so smoothly and quickly....it floats or stays at the surface of the water until it fills up then it moves more like a torpedo under water. I am not sure if it supposed to fill up over time or if that was a result of rough play with 2 toddler boys (ages 2 & 3). Either way both of my boys love this for both bath play and pool play! We can't go to the pool without this and the regular torpedoes. It is a little heavy so you definitely want to encourage not throwing this....if it hits you it does hurt!

We own several Swimways torpedo products for our pool. I thought it would be a fun change to try this product, so we bought it as a gift for our son. it looks awesome and we immediately opened it to try it out. it immediately started taking in water and started to sink. My children continued to keep trying it out to get it to work right, until, needless to say the tail broke completely off within an hour! disappointing! & a complete waste of money. will go back to getting the original torpedo!

I bought this for my 3 yr old son. I was surprised by the buoyancy and hard plastic material at first because I grew up with the rubber torpedoes in the early 90s, but not having to dive to the bottom of the deep end is a pretty nice benefit, so I was initially thrilled with the toy. After our third use though, the shark had been dropped a couple of times and thrown into the wall of the pool when it began to sink. Apparently there is supposed to be an airtight cavity inside the shark to provide that "barely buoyant" balance that makes the shark float at the end of each underwater throw, but there has been a leak and water can be heard sloshing around inside. I'm considering a fix, by drilling a hole in the Sharks back and inserting some styrofoam to make sure it always floats.

It's a decent toy, looks good, and works wonders by design. However, our's had a manufacturing defect and it let water in, which causes it to fill up and sink, rather than float. So it was great for a few pool trips, after than it becomes a sinking weight. And because it's nearly all full of water, I could not even ship it back as UPS said they can't ship liquids. Because the hole is probably pin point somewhere under the rubber coating, after 3 weeks or so it still has lots of water inside, it does not drain.

If you are assuming this is like most underwater play catch pool torpedoes it has one big difference. It surfaces. Once you learn how to throw it at a down angle only, it actually becomes kind of fun and bizarrely life like. especially if you have a waterfall or some kind of a current it can swim toward like a pool jet. It’s fun to follow after you throw it because it really does swim like a real fish to the surface. My kids played with it first and told me it was baloney. I actually liked it and I showed them how to use it and so do they now. Get it.

It is a pretty fun shark. The size isn't bad and I love that it always comes back up to the surface. We got this for our dog as a pool toy she has little intrest in it but we are amused. My only complaint is that if you don't throw it the right way it just plops in the water.

My 3 year old grandson is enthralled by sharks and this toy is perfect for him. It dives and glides in the shallow end of the pool depending upon how you toss it. We use it as a reward for him to swim. It is small enough that he can carry it around with him and he just loves throwing it when we are playing together in the pool. I am in my 60's and I have a lot of fun with it, too...so, it's safe to say that it is fun for all ages. I am buying one for my other 3 year old grandson so he can enjoy it, too.
